After a five-month flurry of activity at the Central Community Hospital, a major renovation project is nearing completion. An Open House, with a dinner sponsored by Freedom Bank, will be held October 9 at the hospital from 4-7 p.m. to give the public a look at the results of the approximately $728,000 renovation, which includes the Operating Room, Recovery Room, an EMS Director Office, improved storage areas, and a central supply area. A new boiler was also added to supplement a boiler that was installed in 2000.
“This has really been an interesting project, because it was a renovation of a 48-year old area,” said Hospital CEO Fran Zichal. “Unbelievable innovations have come along since the hospital was built, and this project has let us implement all the latest technologies and bring everything up-to-date to meet the new and changing codes.”
Zichal said a fundraiser helped pay for some of the costs and the rest was paid from the hospital’s operations fund. “The fundraiser exceeded our expectations,” she said. “We wanted to raise $175,000, but we raised more than $266,000.
The addition of new equipment costs approximately $132,000 more, bringing the total cost to about $850,000. Included in the equipment purchased was a surgery table, surgical light, monitor, and a blood fluid warmer.
“Basically, we wanted to update the area,” Zichal said. “The number one worry in health care is infection. These improvements help us keep within the current recommendations with a well thought-out Operating Room that improves patient flow, because the new Recovery Room is right next to the OR.”
Zichal added that the new OR may mean more specialists will use the facility. She also commented that the renovation will also help recruit a General Surgeon to join surgeons Roger Rademacher and Chris Hugo at the hospital.
“I want to thank the community for financially supporting this project, and more importantly, for the area residents that use this facility,” Zichal said. “This project was done for our patients. It keeps us up-to-date and helps us provide the best patient experience possible in our hospital.”
Zichal also said thanks go to the Hospital, Auxiliary and Foundation boards for their support and visionary thinking. “I also want to thank the OR crew and the Maintenance crew for making sure things flowed correctly. They made sure the project kept on target by making great decisions, and their help is deeply appreciated.”
